  All India U-21 & Sr Karate: Odisha bag eight medals

A 30-member Odisha squad bagged a total of eight medals in the All India U-21 and Senior Karate Championship, which concluded in Dehradun, Uttarakhand today. The eight medals featured one gold two silver and five bronze. Odisha secured one gold, one silver and two bronze medals on February 18 and one silver and three bronze today.

Valena Valentina justified her reputation as the best woman karateka of the State, capturing gold medal in senior women team kata and silver medal in individual kata. Suman Sekhar Das was another multiple medallist of the Odisha squad.

 

Suman won one bronze medal each in U-21 and senior men 84kg fight events. Odisha squad was accompanied by manager Abinash Pundir, coaches Kharabel Mallick and Deepak Kumar Samantara and referee Rajib Kumar Singh.

Odisha State Karate-Do Association secretary Dr Gouri Mohanty and coach Dr Hari Prasad Pattanayak congratulate the medal winners.

ODISHA MEDALLISTS:

Gold (1):
Valena Valentina, Suromita Sinha, Bidya Kiran Sahoo, Nyasha Kumari (Senior women team kata).
Silver (2): Valena Valentina (Sr women kata) and Loma Swain (Senior women 50kg fight).
Bronze (5): Mou Minal (U-21 women 68kg fight), Suman Sekhar Das (U-21 men 84kg fight), Bhagaban Reddy (Senior men 55kg fight), Krushna Chandra Nayak (Senior men 60kg fight), Suman Sekhar Das (Senior men 84kg fight).
