  Khelo India Weightlifting: Odisha women win 5 medals

Odisha ended its campaign with eight medals in different groups of the Khelo India National Ranking Women Weightlifting Tournament (3rd Phase), which is underway at Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna (Bihar) from 18 February 2023. The eight medals include two gold and four silver and one bronze.

Priteesmita Bhoi won the first medal for the State with a silver in youth 40 kg weight class on February 19. Inmate of Dhenkanal sub-centre of Odisha Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Priteedsmita finished second her category with a total lift of 110 kg. She lifted 49 kg in snatch and 61 kg in clean & jerk.

 

Mina Singh of Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel, grabbed the first gold medal in 45 kg category with a total 126 kg also on February 19. She lifted 57 kg in snatch and 72 kgt in clean & jerk.

The second gold medal was captured by Mina Santa (B) in 49 kg category on February 20. Cadet of Odisha Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Bhubaneswar, she lifted 59 kg in snatch, 72 kg in clean & jerk for a total 131 kg.

Odisha earned the second silver medal when Weightlifting HPC lifter Tikimohini Mallik finished second in youth 64 kg class with a total lift of 145 kg on February 22. Tiki lifted 62 kg in snatch and 83 kg in clean & jerk.

Maganthi Keerthi of KIIT University gave Odisha the first bronze medal in senior 76 kg category with a total lift of 166 kg on 23 February with efforts of 71 kg in snatch and 95 kg in clean & jerk. Odisha Weightlifting HPC inmate Swetalina Nayak clinched bronze medal in youth 81 kg category with a total lift of 158 Kg at the ongoing Khelo India junior/Youth National Ranking Women`s Weightlifting Tournament.

Abhishiktha Kaduluri of KIIT University captured one silver medal each in junior and senior 87 kg weight class, lifting 75 kg in snatch and 91 kg in clean & jerk for a total of 166 kg. A 21-member Odisha contingent, featuring 16 lifter and five support staff participated in the Khelo India competition.

Around 400 weightlifters participated in the 3rd Phase. The 2nd Phase was organized in RN Resort, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh and 1st Phase at Rainbow International School, Nagrota Bagwan, Himachal Pradesh in June 2022.

A total amount of Rs 1.47 crore has been approved for three women weightlifting tournaments and it includes a total sum of Rs 48.3 Lakh for the top eight ranked lifters across 10 weight categories in all age groups.
