Odisha ended campaign with a silver medal on the fourth and last day of the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Ranchi, Jharkhand today. Woman international Purnima Hembram secured the silver medal in heptathlon with a total of 5128 points.
Odisha secured a total six medals in this championship. The six medals include two gold, one silver and three bronze. The gold and bronze medal in the seven-event heptathlon went to Sowmiya Murugau of Andhra Pradesh and Tanushree of Rajasthan with 5187 and 4655 points respectively.
The seven events in heptathlon are: 100m hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m run, long jump, javelin throw and 800m run. Among other Odisha athletes in action today, Madhumita Deb finished seventh in womens 200m, clocking 25.22 seconds. Kishore Kumar Jena and Vikrant Malik secured fourth and sixth position in mens javelin with efforts of 76.17m and 74.19m respectively.
