Indian Senior Women Volleyball Team, featuring Odisha libero Ananya Das, beat Uzbekistan by 3-0 sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-15) in the semifinals of the CAVA Women Volleyball Challenge Cup in Kathmandu, Nepal today. India will face the winner of second semifinal between Nepal and Kazakhstan in the Final on May 28.
Earlier, India beat host Nepal 3-1 (25-12, 26-24, 21-25, 25-21) in their third and last Pool-A match to qualify for the semifinals with three successive wins in the pool league.
In their first two league matches, Indian women drubbed Bangladesh by 3-0 sets and Kazakhstan also bv 3-0 sets. The tournament is being held under the auspices of Central Asia Volleyball Federation (CAVA) from 22 to 28 May 2023.
The 14-member Indian Senior Team, featuring six players from Kerala, five from Indian Railway and one each from Odisha, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh, will be led by Nirmal. Odisha official Sudhansu Bhusan Mishra has also been chosen as manager of the Indian team.

Ananya Das hails from Kolkata, West Bengal and works for East Coast Railways. She represented Odisha in the 71st Senior National Volleyball Championship, held at Nabin Chandra Indoor Stadium, Sarusjai Sports Complex, Guwahati, Assam from 2-9 February 2023.
The Indian team would leave for Kathmandu on May 20. The team was finalised after a coaching camp, which was held at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar from May 2 to 19. A total of 24 provisionally selected players participated in the camp, which was organized by Odisha Volleyball Association (OVA) with the financial support of KIIT & KISS Founder Prof Achyuta Samanta, who is also the President of VFI.
According to Dr Dash, who is also the General Secretary of OVA, after the CAVA Challenge Cup, the Indian Senior Women team will participate in the 4th AVC Women Challenger at Gresia, East Java, Indonesia from 18 to 28 June 2023.
