Swimming in Odisha received a boost of sorts as Lakshmi Chandra Mahakur, Joint-Secretary of The Odisha State Swimming Association (TOSSA), was elected unopposed as one of the four Joint-Secretaries of Swimming Federation of India (SFI) for a four-year term today.

Election of office-bearers was held duing the Annual General Meeting of the SFI in Chennai. In fact, all office-bearers of the swimming National body, including the President and Secretary, were elected unanimously. TOSSA President Pradip Kumar Padhee was also present in the AGM.

A former National level swimmer, Mahakur is currently working as a swimming coach at East Coast Railway. As a swimmer, Mahakur, who hails from Sambalpur, represented Odisha in National championships and won medals in Masters National Swimming Championships.
