  Special Olympics: Rajpalia bags silver; Bronze for Aridita

Odisha athletes bagged two more medals for the country in the 16 th Special Olympcs World Games in Berlin, Germany yesterday. The two medals include one silver and one bronze. Both the medals were secured in shot put.

Baishnab Rajpalia from Saintala block of Balangir district won the silver medal Level C shot put with an effort of 8.44 metres. The 17-year-old boy is a Class-X student of Special School RSD, Saintala.

Rajpalia belongs to Tikrapada village in Saintala block. He is the only son of Bhuban and Kasturi Rajpalia. Balangir Collector congratuted the shot putter for his glorious achievement. “You are an inspiration to many,’’ tweeted the Collector.
 

Rajpalia was provided with a sports kit by the district administration as small token of support for his participation in the Special Olympics World Games. His coach Umakanta Sarangi said he got the results for his hard work.

Rajpalia has gone through a lot of hardship. His father works as labourer and mother is a housewife.

Aridita Chakraborty won bronze medal in Level D shot put competition with an effort of 4.55 metres. Aridita belongs to Bhubaneswar. She is also set to compete in 400m run in Level C category.

Odisha athletes have bagged two silver and one bronze medal for India in the ongoing Special Olympics World Games. Earlier on June 21, girl cyclist Kalpana Jena claimed silver medal in 2km time trial.

A nine-member Odisha squad, featuring four athletes, three partners and two coaches, is representing India in the Berlin Games.
