Versatile Odisha woman athlete Anupama Swain has been selected to represent a 16-member Indian ju-jitsu team in the 19th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China from 23 September to 8 October 2023. The Indian team, announced by Ju-Jitsu Association of India, features eight men and eight women.
Indian ju-jitsu team will make its debut in the Asian Games. Ju-jitsu will make its second consecutive appearance at the Games after its debut in the 2018 edition in Jakarta.
The eight men and eight women were picked across four weight divisions from the national trials held at the Indira Gandhi Sports Stadium in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, on June 20.
Employee of Commissionerate Police, Anupama is five-time national champion in ju-jitsu. She has won silver and bronze medal in last three Asian Ju-Jitsu Championships. An inmate of Bhubaneswar-based Utkal Karate School, Anupama has the reputation of winning national and international medals in karate and powerlifting.
