Odisha athlete Susmita Tigga won the womans 3000m steeplechase gold medal in the Indian Grand Prix-4, which was conducted by Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at the Sree Kanteerava Stadkum in Bengaluru, Karnataka today.
Inmate of Bhuabneswar-based Odisha-Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre, Susmita stood first with a time of 10:53.94. Priti Chaudhary (Uttar Pradesh) and Shaheen Dharwad (Karnataka) finished second and third respectively.
Among other Odisha athletes, Kishore Kumar Jena finished fourth in mens javelin throw with an effort of 77.22m, while Laxmipriya Kisan finished fifth in womens 400m run, clocking 59.37 seconds.
Javelin thrower Jena, who had bagged the gold medal with a personal best of 81.05m at the Indian GP-1 in Trivandrum last month, could not put perform up to expectations due to a fever at the GP-4.
Manu DP (Karnataka) won the gold with 84.33m, while Uttar Pradesh duo of Rohit Yadav (81.81m) and Shivpal Singh (79.70m) settled with second and third place respectively.
