Puri pair of Ayushman Mohanty and Pritisha Mitra won the titles in open and girls sections respectively in the Odisha State U-17 Chess Championship, which was held at Sarvodaya Complex in Koraput on 8 and 9 April 2023.

Himansu Sekhar Pradhan (Puri) and Seema Purty (KISS) finished runner-up in the open and girls category respectively. The champion and runner-up in both the categories became eligible to represent Odisha in the 33rd National U-17 U-17 Chess Championship, which was held at Sarvodaya Complex in Koraput on 8 and 9 April 2023.Chess Championship, scheduled to be held in Jalandhar, Punjab from 1 to 9 May 2023.

A total of 85 players, including 33 girls participated in the two-day State championship, which was jointly organised by Koraput District Chess Association (KDCA) and Kalinga Sports Foundation (KSF), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA).

Koraput MLA and District Planning Board Chairman Raghuram Padal graced the closing ceremony as chief guest. AOCA President GC Mohapatra, chief arbiter Bhabesh Mohanty; KDCA president Lalatendu Pratap Deo and secretary Pradeep Kumar Mohanty were present on the occasion.
