  Treble for Jayanti; Odisha end campaign with 9 medals

Riding on a glorious treble by woman sprint ace Jayanti Behera, Odisha bagged a total of nine medals in the 21st National Para Athletics Championship, which concluded at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune, Maharashtra today. The nine medals include four gold, one silver and four bronze.

Jayanti completed her treble by winning the 200m gold in T47 category with time of 27.38 seconds. This was the third gold for Jayanti, who had secured the yellow metal in 400m and 100m events earlier on April 18 and 19 respectively.

 

Odisha capture another medal on the concluding day with Suchitra Parida pocketing silver in women T55 javelin throw with an effort of 14.66 metre. With the nine medals, Odisha secured 10th position in the medal tally.

This was the best performance in 10 years by the Odisha, which had also bagged nine medals in the 2019 National Para Athletics Championship.

Para-Olympian Markanda Reddy and fellow coach Bishnu Prasad Mishra played important roles for the outstanding success of the Odisha squad. Para-badminton star Pramod Bhagat also motivated the Odisha para athletes with his presence.
