A seven-member Odisha squad bagged one gold and two bronze medals in the Indian Challengers Cup 7th International Karate Championship, which was held at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium, Kolkata on 29 and 30 July 2023.

Krushna Chandra Nayak won the gold medal in mens individual fight, while Suman Sekhar Das secured one bronze in 84kg mens fight events. Odisha claimed the other bronze medal and a cash award of Rs 20,000 in mens team fight.

The five-member bronze medal-winning team featured Krushna Chandra Nayak, D Bhagaban Reddy, Ritesh Ray, Suman Sekhar Das and Rajesh Mohapatra. Ritesh Mohanty and Sahil Kumar also represented Odisha in this championship.

The two-day championship was organised by All India Seishinkai Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Federation with the approval of Karate India Organisation. Odisha State Karate-Do Association secretary Dr Gouri Mohanty and coach Dr Hari Prasad Pattanayak congratulated the medal winners.
