  Hockey Champions Trophy: India pulverize Pakistan

Host Indian rode on a brace by captain Harmanpreet Singh to pulverize Pakistan 4-0 in their fifth and last league match of the 7th Mens Asian Champions Trophy Hockey Tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai, Tamil Nadu today.

Jugraj Singh and Akashdeep Singh scored the other two goals for India. This was the fourth win for India and they stormed into the semifinals, topping the league table with 13 points. Malaysia, defending champions South Korea and Asian Games champions Japan completed the semifinal line-up after completion of the league phase.

In two other league matches of the day, Japan beat Chine 2-1, while Malaysia edged out South Korea 1-0. Malaysia secured second position in the league table with 12 points, while South Korea and Japan finished third and fourth with five points each.

In the semifinals on August 11, Malaysia will meet South Korea, while India will take on Japan.

RESULTS:

August 9
(Match 13): Japan (Shota Yamada 8-PC, Kentaro Fukuda 54-PC) beat China (Souzhu Ao 57-PC) 2-1. PoM: Manabu Yamashita (Japan).

August 9 (Match 14): Malaysia (Kamal Azrai Abu 22-FG) beat South Korea 1-0. PoM: Kim Jaehyeong (South Korea).

August 9 (Match 15): India (Harmanpreet Singh 15-PC, 23-PC, Jugraj Singh 36-PC, Akashdeep Singh 55-FG) beat Pakistan 4-0. PoM: Harmanpreet Singh.
