  Independent Cup Karate: Odisha capture 24 medals

Odisha reaped a rich haul of 24 medals in 17th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship, which was held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium in New Delhi from 11 to 13 August 2023. The 24 medals include 14 gold, four silver and six bronze. The squad was accompanied by Rajib Singh as official.

Odisha garnered a total of seven medals on the opening day and 17 on the second and third day. Odisha State Karate-Do Association fielded a 27-member squad in the three-day championship, which was organised by Seiko Kai Karate International, India & Bharat Karate Academy with the approval of Karate India Organisation.

 

ODISHA MEDAL WINNERS:

Gold (14):
D Bhagaban Reddy (Senior men 55kg fight), Sindhu Tanaya Khuntia (Senior women 45kg fight), Loma Swain (Senior women 50kg fight), Akankshya Das (Sub-junior kata), Om Satyam Mohanty (Sub-junior kata and fight), Jignyasa Mohanty (Sub-junior girls), Arya Banshika (Sub-junior kata and fight), Arnadityaa Swain (Sub-junior kata), Nax Poddar (Sub-junior fight), Subhranshu Lenka (+40kg fight), Aparajita Paul (45kg girls fight), Jyotirmayee Rana (11-13 years fight).

Silver (4): Krushna Chandra Nayak (Senior men 60kg fight), Debarshita Mohanty (45kg fight), Aryavir Nayak (both kata and fight).

Bronze (6): Trinath Rana (Senior men 67kg fight), Susmini Paltasingh (Senior women 45kg kata and fight), Akankshya Das (45kg fight), Jignyasa Mohanty (45kg fight), Arnadityaa Swain (25kg fight).
