  East Zone Badminton: Odisha capture 9 medals

A 22-member Odisha squad bagged a total of nine medals in the East Zone Inter-State Team & Individual Badminton Championships, which were held at Star Badminton Academy in Kolkata from 11 to 14 August 2023. The nine medals include one gold, one silver and seven bronze.

Vishaka Toppo and Pragati Parida grabbed the lone gold medal in U-19 girls doubles, defeating West Bengal opponents Muskaan Chatterjee and Sayani Sarkar in the final 21-13, 21-10. Amlan Kumar Garnaik and Tanmaya Sahu claimed the silver medal in mens doubles.

Sruti Swain secured one bronze medal in women singles and another in women doubles with Harshitaa Rout as partner. Ayush Dash and Purba Pratyasha Panda won one bronze medal in senior mixed doubles.

Odisha shuttlers settled with bronze medals after losing in the semifinals. Arya Majhi captured one bronze in U-19 boys singles, while another bronze was pocketed by Tahasif Khan and Amaya Kumar Nayak in U-19 boys doubles.

Odisha garnered two bronze medals in senior women and U-19 girls teams events. The senior women team was represented by Harshitaa Rout, Sruti Swain, Vishaka Toppo, Pragati Parida, Purba Pratyasha Panda and Shreya Biswal.

The U-19 girls team was consisted of Harshitaa Rout, Vishaka Toppo, Pragati Parida, Shreya Biswal, Sweety Priya Pradhan and Ashwika Mishra.
