  IBSA World Games; Indian women win gold, men bag silver

Indian Visually Challenged Women Cricket Team, featuring four players from Odisha, scripted history by winning the gold medal in the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games in Birmingham, England. India beat Australia in the rain-curtailed final by nine wickets.

The four Odisha players were: Padmini Tudu, Basanti Hansda, Phula Soren and Jhili Birua. Among the four Odisha players, Phula Soren was the vice-captain of the Indian team.

 

India missed out on a double crown as their men team, involving three players from Odisha, finished runners-up, losing to Pakistan by 18 runs in the final at King Edwards School, Birmingham, England. The three Odisha players were: Mohammad Jafar Iqbal, Pankaj Bhue and Nakula Badanayak.

INDIA RESULTS:

WOMEN:

20 August: Australia (59/6) lost to India (61/2) by 8 wickets.
21 August: India (268/2) beat England (83/8) by 185 runs.
23 August: India (245/2) beat Australia (82/5) by 163 runs.
24 August (Semifinal): India (217/5) beat England (64/4) by 153 runs.
26 August (Final): Australia (114/8 in 20 overs) lost to India (43/1 in 3.3 overs) by 9 wickets

MEN:
20 August: Pakistan 187/8 in 20 overs (M Salman 50, N Ali 46, B Munir 37; AK Reddy 4/17, Nakul Badanayak 3/24) beat India 169/7 in 20 overs (S Ramesh 62, DR Tompaki 40, VR Dunna 21; M Ullah 2/24) by 18 runs.
21 August: Australia (139/4) lost to India (141/2) by 8 wickets.
22 August: England (147/5) lost to India (148/3) by 7 wickets.
23 August: Bangladesh (147/6) lost to India (165/7) by 3 wickets.
25 August (Semifinal): Bangladesh (144/6) lost to India (145/3) by 7 wickets.
26 August (Final): India 184/3 in 20 overs (Durga Rao Tompaki 76) lost to Pakistan 185/2 in 15 overs () by 8 wickets.
