  Sohini shines at IC Rod Laver Junior Challenge Qualifier

Promising Odisha tennis player Sohini Mohanty helped India U-16 Team win the title in the IC Rod Laver Junior Challenge Asia/Oceania Zone Qualifying Tournament, which concluded at Ariake Tennis Park Indoor Court Courts in Tokyo, Japan today.

In the four-team zonal tournament, India won all of their three matches to qualify for the Worldwide Finals, which is scheduled to be held in California, USA later this year in November.

Besides India, two teams from host Japan and Pakistan vied for the title in the Asia/Oceania Zone Qualifying Tournament. The four-member Indian team beat Japan B 6-0, Pakistan 6-0 and Japan A 4-3 in tie-break.

 

Asim Adkar, Rethin Pranav and Rushil Khosla were other four players of the Indian team. Each team was comprised of two boys and two girls. Each match featured two boys singles, two girls singles, one boys doubles and one girls doubles. A mixed doubles tie-break was played in case of teams tied at 3-3.

The Zonal Qualifying Tournament proved to be a double delight for Bhubaneswar girl Sohini as bagged the Sportsmanship Award besides the winners trophy. Daughter of Sanjay Mohanty and Raisri Srichandan, Sohini is honing her skills at the Bhubaneswar-based Altevol Tennis Academy and studying at KIIT International School.
