Odisha FC today sprang a surprise by signing Indian Super League (ISL) superstar Roy Krishna on a year-long deal. The Fijian International striker, fresh off his victorious Durand Cup campaign last season, will play alongside ISL 2022-23 Golden Boot winner, Diego Mauricio.
The journey of Roy Krishna in football has been nothing short of remarkable. Hailing from Fiji, he developed a passion for the beautiful game at a young age, and his exceptional skills quickly caught the attention of scouts. In 2008, he made the leap to the professional ranks, signing for Waitakere United in New Zealand.
The defining moment of his career came when he joined Auckland City FC in 2013. During his time with the New Zealand club, he helped them achieve tremendous success in the OFC Champions League, scoring crucial goals and guiding the team to multiple titles.
However, true impact Krishna was felt when he joined the ISL in 2017, representing ATK (now Mohun Bagan Super Giants). His electrifying pace, clinical finishing, and strong work ethic made him an instant fan favourite. The Fijian striker played a pivotal role in the title-winning campaign for ATK in the 2019-2020 season.
Last season, Krishna embarked on a new challenge with Bengaluru FC and further solidified his status as one of the most decorated players in the ISL. A crowning achievement came when he lifted the prestigious Durand Cup with the Blues, showcasing his hunger for success and an unyielding desire to win trophies.
With Krishna leading the line alongside Diego Mauricio, the attacking department of Odisha FC becomes significantly more potent. His ability to create opportunities out of nothing and clinical finishing will put immense pressure on opposing defences.
The current market velue of 35-year-old Krisha is believed to be Rs 2 crore. He will be the fifth foreign player of the Bhubaneswar-based Odisha FC for the upcoming season. Other five are: Mourtada Fall, Ahmed Jahouh, Carlos Delgado and Diego Mauricio.
