  National Open U23 Athletics: Odisha bag 5 medals

Odisha won five medals in the 3rd National Open U-23 Athletics Championships, which was held at Sports Complex, Sector 7, Chandigarh from 20 to 22 October 2023. The five medals include one gold, three silver and one bronze. A total to 16 athletes represented Odisha in this three-day championship.

Animesh Kujur, who belongs to Chhattisgarh, but trains at Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar, bagged the lone gold medal for Odisha in men 200m run, clocking 28.87. He also created a new meet record in the process.

The three silver medals were claimed by A Graceson Jeeva, Nikhil Das and Jashbir Nayak, while the lone bronze medal was secured by Lalu Prasad Bhoi. Jeeva, who originally hails from Tamil Nadu and trains at Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics HPC, won the silver medal in men 100m hurdles with a time of 14.02 seconds.

 

Nikhil Das pocked the silver medal in men high jump with a leap of 2.05 metre, while Lalu Prasad Bhoi captured the bronze medal in men 100m run, clocking 10.64 seconds. Both Nikhil and Lalu are trainees of ORF Athletics HPC.

Jashbir Nayak won one silver medal in men decathlon, logging a total of 6443 points. Jashbir belongs to Kalahandi district and trains at ORF Athletics HPC.
