  37th National Games: Odisha gymnasts, lifters win medals

Odisha bagged one gold and two bronze medals in the 37th National Games in Goa today. Pranati Nayak won the gold in women artistics individual all-around event, while Jhilli Dalabehera and Sneha Soren secured one bronze each in women weightlifting 49 kg and 55 kg category respectively.

Olympian Pranati, who hails from West Bengal, but trains at Odisha AM/NS Gymnastic High Performance Centre in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, captured the first gold for Odisha with a total of 45.60 points at the Peddem Indoor Stadium in Mapusa, North Goa.

 

Jhilli settled for the bronze medal with a total lift of 167 kg at the Campal Sports Village in Panaji. She lifted 76 kg in snatch and 96 kg in clean & jerk. Sneha also contended herself with the bronze, lifting 80 kg in snatch and 106 kg in clean & jerk for a total of 186 kg.

Earlier on October 23, Odisha male gymnasts Rakesh Kumar Patra and Tapeswaranath Das won the gold medal for Services in artistics team event. Both Patra and Das train at Odisha AM/NS Gymnastic HPC, under the guidance of coach Ashok Kumar Mishra.

Meanwhile Odisha made sparking start in rugby sevens with both the men and women teams of the State, posing two wins each in group league. Odisha women outplayed Goa 52-0 and Bihar 27-5 in Pool A, while Odisha men prevailed over Kerala 15-12 and Goa 14-5 in Pool A.
