Odisha international Sohini Mohanty and finished girls doubles runners-up at the Thailand ITF World Juniors J60 Tennis Tournament in Nonthabury, Thailand today with Sreenidhi Balaji from Karnataka as her partner. The top-seeded Indian pair lost to second seeds Thailand-Chinese Taipei combination of Kamomwan Komsila and Yu-Ning Tsai in the final 1-6, 3-6.
Earlier in the semifinals, Sohini and Sreenidhi beat the Thailand pair of Pearlyn Chewputtanagul and Kamonwan Yodpetch 1-6, 6-4, 10-2. After getting a bye in the first round, Sohini and Sreenidhi won two matches to reach the semifinals.
In the second round, they crushed Thailand opponents Phattarawadee Chanawong and Kanokin Wongpuvarak 6-0, 6-0 and then got the better of another Thai duo Paramee Tadkaew and Pimmada Thongkum 2-6, 6-3, 10-4 in the quarterfinals.
Sohini also competed in the singles event and reached quarterfinals before losing to Georgia Campbell of Australia 4-6, 3-6. On her way to quarterfinals, third seed Sohini beat Kimi Aiyana Brodeth (Philippines) 7-6 (5), 6-2 in second round and Yuzuha Negishi (Japan) 6-3, 6-2 in the pre-quarterfinals. Sohini started her singles campaign with bye in the first round.
