National Games: Rowers secure 2 bronze medals
01 Nov 2023

Rowers made a modest contribution of two bronze medals to the tally of Odisha in the 37th National Games at Chapora River in Mapusa, Goa today. As usual, both the medals were bagged by women rowers of SAI Centre of Excellence, Jagatpur, Cuttack.

Odihsa squad, consisting of Sanjukta Dungdung, Sweeti, Anshika Bharti and Reshma Kumar Minz, captured one bronze in women quadruple scull, clocking 06:44.8. Among the medal winners, Anshika Bharti and Sweeti belong to Madhya Pradesh and Haryana respectively.

Ritu Kaudi and Sonali Swain claimed the other bronze medal in women coxless pair with a time of 07:20.0.

Speaking on the performance of the Odisha rowers, coach Inderpal Singh said, “We are quite pleased with the performance though we had the potential to do better. However, it has been challenging for them.

Rowing is a training intensive discipline amd some of our coaches including myself have been away with the Indian contingent for Asian Games. Despite this, I think the athletes have performed admirably,’’ he observed.
