  Tennis: Sanvi, Jagat win maiden AITA titles

Upcoming Odisha tennis players Sanvi Mohanty and Jagat Jyoti Pati bagged their maiden All India Tennis Association titles by emerging girls and boys singles champion respectively in the AITA-OTA U-14 Talent Series Tournament, which concluded at KT Global School in Barunei, Khordha today.

Bhubaneswar girl Sanvi claimed the title, beating Statemate Marisa Rout in the final 6-4, 6-3 yesterday. Standard VII student of Sai International School, Sanvi trains at Kalinga Stadium-based Odisha Tennis Academy, under the guidance of senior coach Santosh Kumar Mallik. She dedicated the title to her parents Sangram Mohanty and Smriti Mohanty.

 

Cuttack boy Jagat became champion, defeating Sutavya Karmakar, also from Odisha, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in the marathon final that lasted more than two and half hours today. IIG Sports Academy Director Prasant Kumar Puhan handed over the trophies at the presentation ceremony.

Jagat is a Class-VIII student of DAV Public School, CDA, Cuttack. He is a protégé of former Odisha tennis international player-turned-coach Chinmay Pradhan and hones his skill at Cuttack Club.

The tournament was organised by KT Global School, under the auspices of Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) and All India Tennis Association (AITA) from 11 September 2023.
