  All India Karate Meet: Odisha squad bags 10 medals

A 55-member Odisha State squad bagged 10 medals in the KIO All India Cadet, Junior, U-21 & Senior Karate Championship, which was held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand from 21 to 24 September 2023. The 10 medals consisted of four silver and six bronze.

Priyadarshini Das, Aryabrat Biswal, Trilochan Rana and Ritesh Mohanty won the four silver medals in individual events. Asutosh Mohanty, Bedant Das, Nyasha Kumari and Subhakanta Biswal claimed one bronze medal each in individual events.

 

Odisha secured two bronze medals in team events. Saloni Patra, Anshita Sahoo, Dipsa Debanshi Pradhan, Deepshikha Samantara bagged one bronze in junior female team kata, while. Sindhu Tanaya Khuntia, Susmini Paltasingh, Loma Swain, Bratati Biswaprava Pati and Monali Sahoo captured the other bronze in senior female team kumite.

Odisha squad was accompanied by coaches Deepak Kumar Samantara, Kharavel Mallick, Mahesh Chandra Baral, Santosh Maharana, Rajendra Keshari Samal, KGK Pratihari; manager Avinash Pundir and official Rajib Kumar Singh.

Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha, provided all support for the participation of the State squad in the All India Championship.

ODISHA MEDAL WINNERS:

Silver:
1. Priyadarshini Das (Junior female individual kata), 2. Aryabrat Biswal (Cadet male 57 kg individual kumite), 3. Trilochan Rana (Junior male 50 kg kumite), 4. Ritesh Mohanty (Junior male 55 kg kumite).

Bronze: 1. Asutosh Mohanty (Cadet male individual kata), 2. Bedant Das (Junior male individual kata), 3. Saloni Patra, Anshita Sahoo, Dipsa Debanshi Pradhan, Deepshikha Samantara (Junior female team kata), 4. Nyasha Kumari (Junior female 53 kg kumite), 5. Subhakanta Biswal (Junior male +76kg kumite), 6. Sindhu Tanaya Khuntia, Susmini Paltasingh, Loma Swain, Bratati Biswaprava Pati, Monali Sahoo (Senior female team kumite).
