Indian boys team, also featuring two players from Odisha, settled for the fourth position, losing to Chinese Taipei 7-14 in the bronze medal match. The two Odisha players were: Dharmanada Biswal and Charan Hembram.

Earlier in Pool-B league, Indian boys won two games and drew one. They beat Malaysia 17-12, Iran 22-0 and drew against Hong Kong China 17-17. All four Odisha players are students of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar

A total of seven countries participated in the Asia U-18 Championship. Other six nations were: UAE (girls and boys), Hong Kong China (girls and boys), Chinese Taipei (girls and boys), Thailand (girls and boys), Malaysia (boys only), Iran (boys only).

In order to prepare the Indian teams for the Asian competition, Indian Rugby Football Association (IRFU) conduced a coaching camp at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar from August 20 to September27.
