  Santosh Trophy: Odisha end campaign with a loss

It was heart-break for Odisha in the 77th Senior Men National Football Championships for Santosh Trophy as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Delhi in their fifth and last Group-B match at PT Mehnga Singh Stadium in Banga, Punjab today.

This was the second defeat for Odisha, who had also started their campaign with a 2-0 loss against West Bengal. Despite winning three matches in a row in between, Odisha finished third in the group with nine points. Host Punjab secured the second position also with nine points, overtaking Odisha on goal difference of seven against five by Odisha.
 

Led by Rakesh Oram, Odisha achieved the three wins, defeating beating former champions Punjab 1-0, Ladakh 5-0 and Haryana 2-0. Delhi emerged Group-B toppers with 13 points. Overall, Odisha put up respectable performance, under the guidance of Head Coach Akshay Das.

This is the third time Das waas given the responsibility as the head coach. Coach of the Jamshedpur-based Tata Football Academy, Das also played the role of assistant coach of the Odisha senior men team earlier.

October 9 (Match 1, At PT Mehnga Singh Stadium, Banga): Odisha lost to West Bengal (Bijay Murmu 13, Jiten Murmu 48-P) 0-2. PoM: Dippendu Biswas (WB).
October 11 (Match 2, At PT Mehnga Singh Stadium, Banga): Odisha (Kartik Hantal 75) beat Punjab 1-0. PoM: Kartik Hantal.
October 13 (Match 3, At PT Mehnga Singh Stadium, Banga): Odisha (Chandra Muduli 16, 40; Fagu Hembram 22, Arpan Lakra 81, Raisen Tudu 87) beat Ladakh 5-0. PoM: Chandra Muduli.
October 16 (March 4, At Sri Hargobind Stadium, Phagwara): Odisha (Harjinder Singh 44, Dinabandu Das 48) beat Haryana 2-0. PoM: Harjinder Singh.
October 18 (March 5, At PT Mehnga Singh Stadium, Banga): Odisha lost to Delhi (Jaideep Singh 76) 0-1. PoM: Ashish Sibi (Delhi).
