Odisha shuttler Deep Ranjan Bisoyee and his partner Manoj Sarkar from Uttarakhand won the gold medal in mens doubles SL3-SL4 category of the Western Australia Para Badminton International 2023, which concluded in Perth, Australia today.
This was the 11th international medal and third gold for Bhubaneswar para shuttler Bisoyee whose 11 international medals also featured two silver and six bronze. Bisoyee and Sarkar captured the Perth title, defeating Indian opponents Nehal Gupta and Naveen Sivakumar 21-13, 21-7 in the final match.
Employee of Odisha Finance Department, Bisoyee also participated in mens singles SL4 category in which he reached quarterfinals before losing to fellow Indian Naveen Sivakumar 6-21, 11-21.
Indian para shuttlers bagged a total of 21 medals in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Level 2 Tournament, which commenced on October 2. The 21 medals featured four gold, seven silver and 10 bronze.
Three players from Odisha, including Bisoyee, represented the country in the Western Australia Para Badminton International 2023. Of the other two Odisha shuttlers, Gadela Dillaswar Rao lost in mens singles SL3 quarterfinals, while Subhrajeet Maharana lost all the matches he played in mens SL4 singles and SL3-SL4 doubles categories.
