Odisha junior Davis Cupper Debasis Sahoo finished boys doubles runners-up with partner Nikola Jovic from Serbia in the ITF J60 Tennis Foundation Ghana Open, which was held in Accra, Ghana from 2 to 7 October 2023. He also reached semifinals in boys singles.
Top seeds Debasis and Nikola lost to second seeded Ghana-USA combination of Raphael Nil Ankrah and Carel Aubriel Ngounoue in the hard-fought doubles final 6-3, 5-7, 5-10.
The Indo-Serb duo started their campaign with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ghana pair of Aaron Armaah and Hanif Boateng. They won two more matches on way to the final, defeating Togo-Nigeria combination of Kossi Andre Dogbefu and Ikenna Prosper Okonkow 7-6(1), 6-2 in the quarterfinals and Nigerian opponents, Daniel Adeleye and David Ekpenyong 6-2, 7-6(4) in the semifinals.
In singles, fourth seed Debasis defeated Joseph Franklin Jimoh of Nigeria 6-1, 6-4 to reach semifinals, where he went down to second seed and doubles partner Nikola Jovic 6-1, 7-6(5).
Debasis entered the singles semifinals with two wins to his name. He got the better of Yahaya Sani Inabo (Nigeria) 6-2, 6-2 in first round and Venkat Rishi Batlanki (USA) 6-2, 6-1 in pre-quarterfinals.
