Mens tennis team of KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, won the gold medal in the 4th Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023, defeating SRM University, Chennai, 2-1 in the exciting final at Chachal Sports Complex in Guwahati (Assam) on 26 February 2024.
Odisha international Kabir Hans was the main architect of the KIIT University triumph, winning all of his 10 matches, which include five singles and five doubles. Other players of the five-member KIIT team were: Ashish Kumar Parida, Pratyush Mohanty, Atharva Sharma and Anshuman Singh. Jaimin Mehta and Md Anamul Haque accompanied the team as coaches.
On their way to the final, KIIT men beat Chaudhary Charan Singh University 3-0, Shivaji University 3-0, Bharathiar University 2-1 and Savitribai Phule Pune University 2-1. All the players of KIIT team are currently training at the KIIT-Alexander Waske-Altevol Tennis Academy, operating at KIIT University campus.
RESULTS (Final): KIIT University beat SRM University 2-1 (Anshuman Singh lost to Deepak A 3-6, 3-6; Kabir Hans beat Oges Theyjo J 6-0, 6-; Kabir Hans & Atharva Sharma beat Oges Theyjo J & Anish Froilan R 26-4, 6-1).
