Odisha track and field athletes bagged one gold and one silver medal in the 4th Khelo India University Games at Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium, Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati (Assam) today. Both the medals were secured by athletes of Sambalpur University.
Sambalpur University men’s 4x100 relay team, featuring Sarun Payasingh, Aryan Ekka, Abhinash Sahu and Abhishek Dalabehera, won the gold medal, clocking 41.05 seconds. All four sprinters of the relay team are trainees of Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre, Bhubaneswar.
Manisha Merel claimed the silver medal in women long jump with an effort of 5.93 metres. But Odisha woman hurdler Pragyan Prasanti Sahu came a cropper in her event. Representing KIIT Deemed to be University, she could not even finish her run in 100m hurdles.
