  UKK-2: Gujarat Giants triumph; Odisha Juggernauts finish 3rd

Defending champions Odisha Juggernauts settled for the third position in 2nd Ultimate Kho Kho (UKK) League, beating Telugu Yoddhas 32-24 at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack today. Gujarat Giants emerged champions with a 31-26 win over Chennai Quick Guns in the title clash.

Earlier in the semifinals, Gujarat Giants dethroned Odisha Juggernauts 29-27, while Chennai Quick Guns got the better of Telugu Yoddhas 31-29. Odisha Juggernauts qualified for the semifinals by securing second position in the group league with 23 points in 10 matches. They won six matches, lost two and drew two. Chennai Quick Guns topped the table with 25 points.
 

The 2nd UKKL, featuring six franchises was promoted by Dabur India Limited chairman Amit Burman in collaboration with the Kho Kho Federation of India (KKFI). The professional kho-kho league witnessed a total of 34 matches, including two semifinals and the final.

The second season of UKK was inaugurated in the presence of UKK CEO & League Commissioner Tenzing Niyogi on December 24, KKFI President Sudhanshu Mittal, Odisha Sports Minister Tusharkanti Behera and Indian women kho kho team captain Nasreen Shaikh.

The owners and representatives of six franchises, Srinath Chittoori (Chennai Quick Guns), Vinay Singh (Gujarat Giants), Punit Balan (Mumbai Khiladis), Ranjit Parida (Odisha Juggernauts), Jigar Shah (Rajasthan Warriors) and PKSV Sagar (Telugu Yoddhas) also attended the opening ceremony.

RESULTS OF ODISHA JUGGERNAUTS:

24 December 2023 (Match 1): Odisha Juggernauts (Akshay Masal 8 pts; Rohan Shingade, Avinash Desai, Gowtham MK 4+mins) beat Rajasthan Warriors 35-27. Attack of the Match (AM): Manoj Patil (OJ), Defender of the Match (DM): Nikhil B (OJ), Ultimate Kho of the Match (UKM): Rohan Shingade (OJ).

26 December 2023 (Match 2): Odisha Juggernauts (Deepak Sahoo 8 pts) drew with Chennai Quick Guns (Ramji Kashyap 8 pts and stay of 5.28 mins) 34-34. AM: Deepak Sahoo (OJ), DM: Laman Gawas (CQG), UKM: Gowtham MK (OJ).

27 December 2023 (Match 3): Odisha Juggernauts (Deepak Sahoo 10 pts) beat Mumbai Khiladis (Hrushikesh Murchavade 3:03 mins) 31-28. AM: Deepak Sahoo (OJ), DM: Hrushikesh Murchavade (MK), UKM: Rohan Singade (OJ).

30 December 2023 (Match 4): Odisha Juggernauts (Gowtham MK 2:43) lost to Gujarat Giants (Patta Narasayya 8) 29-34. AM: Patta Narasayya (GG), DM: Gowtham MK (OJ), UKM: Shubham Thorat (GG).

31 December 2023 (Match 5): Odisha Juggernauts () lost to Telugu Yoddhas (Pratik Waikar 10, Aditya Ganpula 2:26) 28-29. AM: Pratik Waikar (TY), DM: Aditya Ganpula (TY), UKM: Dipesh More (OJ).

2 January 2024 (Match 6): Odisha Juggernauts (Mahesha 6) drew with Chennai Quick Guns (Ramji Kashyap 3:48) 30-30. AM: Mahesha P (OJ), DM: Ranji Kashyap (CQG), UKM: Rohan Shingade (OJ).

3 January 2024 (Match 7): Odisha Juggernauts (Dilip Khandavi 6 pts & 2:39 mins) beat Rajasthan Warriors () 32-21. AM: Nilesh Patil (RW), DM: Dilip Khandavi (OJ), UKM: Gowtham MK (OJ).

6 January 2024 (Match 8): Odisha Juggernauts beat Gujarat Giants 30-27. AM: Manoj Patil (OJ), DM: Dilip Khandavi (OJ), UKM: Suyash Gargate (GG).

7 January 2024 (Match 9): Odisha Juggernauts beat Telugu Yoddhas 35-27. AM: Dilip Khandavi (OJ), DM: Avdhut Patil (TY), UKM: Rohan Singade (OJ).

9 January 2024 (Match 10): Odisha Juggernauts beat Mumbai Khiladis 34-23. AM: Manoj Kumar (OJ), DM: Mahesha P (OJ), UKM: Sibin M (MK).

11 January 2024 (Match 11, Semifinals): Odisha Juggernauts lost to Gujarat Giants 27-29. AM: Sanket Kadam (GG), DM: Suyash Gargate (GG), UKM: Gowtham MK (OJ).

13 January 2024 (Match 12, For 3rd place): Odisha Juggernauts beat Telugu Yoddhas 32-24. AM: Nikhil B (OJ), DM: Aditya Ganpule (TY), UKM: Dilip Khandavi (OJ).
