  Deep wins Spanish Para Badminton doubles silver medal

Renowned Odisha shuttler Deep Ranjan Bisoyee won his first international medal of the year and 13th overall with a silver in mens doubles SL3-SL4 event of the Spanish Para Badminton International (Level-II) Tournament, which was held in Victoria, Spain from 15 to 21 April 2024.

Bisoyee and his partner Manoj Sarkar from Uttarakhand settled for the silver medal after losing to Korean opponents, Joo Dongjae and Shin Kyung Hwan in the hard-fought final by 1-2 games. The Indian duo made an impressive start, winning the first game 21-14. But the Koreans fought back to win the next two games 21-18, 21-16 and the match.

Bisoyee and Sarkar made it to the final, defeating Indian opponents Umesh Vikram Kumar and Surya Kant Yadav in the semifinals 21-14, 21-13.  Earlier at the league stage, the Bisoyee-Sarkar pair won both of their Group-A matches to qualify for the semifinals.

Three players from Odisha participated in the Spanish Para Badminton International (Level-II) Tournament. Other two were Subhrajeet Maharana and Gadela Dillaswar Rao. Maharana reached quarterfinals in both mens SL4 singles and SL3-SL4 doubles events. Rao performed well in mens SL3 singles, reaching quarterfinals.
