  ISL semifinals: Odisha FC prevail over Mohun Bagan SG

Odisha FC fought back from a goal down to edge past Mohun Bagan Super Giant in their first-leg semifinal of the Indian Super League (ISL) Football Tournament 2023-24 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar tonight. All three goals of the hard-fought match were scored in the first half.

The Juggernauts thus secured their first-ever ISL win over the Mariners after nine attempts, as a game of close margins kicked off amidst frenetic circumstances with all three goals being netted in the first-half of this match.

 

Manvir Singh gave Mohun Bagan an early lead, scoring the first goal of the match in the third minute, but Carlos Delgado and Roy Krishna scored once each for Odisha FC to help the team maintain their unbeaten streak at home this season (13 matches). With this goal, Krishna became the highest-ever goal-scorer for Odisha FC in a single ISL season with a total of 13 goals.

Both teams brought an end to this hotly contested clash with 10 men on either side, as Odisha FC goal-scorer Delgado and Mohun Bagan Super Giant striker Armando Sadiku were sent off in the 74th and 67th minutes of the match after picking up a couple of yellow cards each.

Krishna was awarded as the player of the match. The second-leg semifinal between the two sides will take place at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on April 28.
