  Senior Women NFC: Big win in vain as Odisha bow out

Odisha bowed out from the league stage of the 28th Senior Womens National Football Championship 2024 (Final Round) for Rajmata Jijabai Trophy despite registering a 4-1 win over Sikkim in their fifth and last Group-B match at the AIFF National Centre of Excellence in Kolkata, West Bengal today.

Odisha finished third in the group with 10 points, while last-year runners-up Haryana and 21-time champions Manipur claimed the top two positions with 13 and 12 points respectively. Both Haryana and Manipur qualified for the semifinals.
 

Out of their five matches, Odisha won three, lost one and drew one. They started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Haryana and then posted back-to-back wins, beating Maharashtra 4-1 and Jharkhand 2-0.

But a crushing 3-1 drubbing they suffered against Manipur cost Odisha dear and spoiled their hopes for a berth in the semifinal. It may be mentioned that Odisha were Senior National champions in 2011-12 and National Games gold medallists in 2023 after edging out Manipur on penalties.

2 May 2024 (Group-A League match at AIFF National Centre of Excellence, Kolkata): Odisha (Deepa Nayak 65) drew with Haryana (Pooja 69) 1-1. PoM: Renu (Haryana).

4 May 2024 (Group-A League match at AIFF National Centre of Excellence, Kolkata): Odisha (S Lynda Kom 52, Juli Kishan 81, Malati Munda 82, 84) beat Maharashtra (Aishwarya Jagtap 25-P) 4-1. PoM: Malati Munda.

6 May 2024 (Group-A League match at AIFF National Centre of Excellence, Kolkata): Odisha (Malati Munda 8, S Lynda Kom 19) beat Jharkhand 2-0. PoM: Malati Munda.

9 May 2024 (Group-A League match at AIFF National Centre of Excellence, Kolkata): Odisha (Manisha Naik 87) lost to Manipur (Ngangom Bala Devi 17, 66, Dangmei Grace 26) 1-3. PoM: Ngangom Bala Devi.

11 May 2024 (Group-A League match at AIFF National Centre of Excellence, Kolkata): Odisha (Manisha Naik 8, Pratima Oram 19, Satyabati Khadia 45+2, Sumitra Hembram 55) beat Sikkim (Simran Gurung 15) 4-1. PoM: Manisha Naik.
