Odisha sprint star Srabani Nanda and middle-distance runner Ashok Dandasena won one gold medal each in the second leg of the Indian Grand Prix, which was organized by Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai today.
Olympian Srabani won the gold in 200m sprint, clocking 24.49 seconds. Dandasena, who trains at Odisha Reliance Foundation Athletics High Performance Centre at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, bagged the gold medal in mens 1500m run with time of 3:50.44 seconds.
The one-day Indian Grand Prix-2 turned out to be an ordinary event as most of the top athletes of the country did not participate. With the top athletes competing abroad in view of the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, Indian GP-2 served as a good occasion for lesser-known athletes to win laurels.
The third and fourth legs of the Indian Grand Prix are scheduled to be held in Bangalore, Karnataka on June 12 and in Patiala, Punjab on July 15 respectively. In between, the 63rd National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships would take place at Panchkula, Haryana from 27 to 30 June 2024.
