  State Junior Athletics Meet concludes with 9 new meet records

The 70th Odisha State Junior Athletics Championship concluded with a total of nine New Meet Records (NRM), including three on the third and final day at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. Bargarh sprinter Pratik Maharana, Jajpur runner Bapi Hansda and Cuttack thrower Ommkar Prasad Nanda established the three NMRs in boys-18 age group on the concluding day.

Pratik Maharana created the NMR in 200m sprint, clocking 21.89 seconds. He clinched a sprint double, winning both the 100m and 200m gold medals. Ommkar Nanda also bagged a double, winning both the shot put and discus gold medals. He created a new meet record in discus throw with an effort of 48.81 metres.
 

Asian youth medallist Bapi Hansda produced his NMR in 400m run, clocking 47.48 seconds in the semifinals. He went on to win the gold medal with a time of 47.51 seconds in the final. But the performance of the star athlete was inferior to his earlier time of 46.90 seconds with which he had won the gold medal with NMR at the 22nd National Junior Federation Athletics Championship earlier this year in Lucknow.

The three-day championship featured a total of 48 events, including 16 on the last day. Odisha Athletics Association president G Srinibas Patnaik and secretary Asiarbad Behera handed over the trophies to group winners and NMR producers at the closing ceremony.

BOYS-14: Kids javelin: 1. Niladri Mohan Swain (Jajpur), 2. Sambhu Hoo (Balasore), 3. Shree Yash Mohanty (Kendrapara).

BOYS-16: 60m Run: 1. Mangal Sinku (Sundargarh), 2. Srinath Murmu (Bhubaneswar), 3. Dhananjay Soren (Keonjhar). 600m Run: 1. Ani Salbam (Malkangiri), 2. Sanjay Hansda (Keonjhar), 3. Luku Badanayak (Nabarangpur).

BOYS-18: 200m Run: 1. Pratik Maharana (Bargarh, 21.89s, NMR), 2. Biswa Bhusan Jena (Dhenkanal), 3. Ram Hansda (Cuttack). 400m Run: 1. Bapi Hansda (Jajpur, 47.51 in final, *NMR 47.48s in SF), 2. Ram Hansda (Cuttack), 3. Nileya Tadingi (Cuttack). 5000m Race walking: 1. Dhaneswar Baskey (Keonjhar), 2. Sloka Sai (Mayurbhanj), 3. Nayana Pradhan (Jharsuguda). Discus: 1. Ommkar Prasad Nanda (Cuttack, 48.81m *NMR), 2. Suraj Gope (Rourkela SP), 3. Satnm Muduli (Dhenkanal). Heptathlon: 1. Surya Prakash Ray (Cuttack), 2. Jiten Bagh (KIIT), 3. Biswajit Das (Keonjhar).

GIRLS-14: Kids javelin: 1. Kuni Rajgond (Nabarangpur), 2. Samikshya Smaranika (Jajpur), 3. Barsha Tarei (Balasore).

GIRLS-16: 60m Run: 1. Parbati Hansdah (Bhubaneswar), 2. Tulsi Bag (Sundargarh), 3. Rutuparna Biswal (Bhubaneswar). 600m Run: 1. Laxmipriya Nath (Jajpur), 2. Kavita Mahato (Rourkela SP), 3. Balhi Murmu (Mayurbhanj).

GIRLS-18: 200m Run: 1. Arpita Priyadarsini (Khurda), 2. Neha Oram (Bhubaneswar), 3. Sushree Swagatika Samantaray (Khurda). 400m Run: 1. Rameswari Gond (Jajpur), 2. Neha Oram (Bhubaneswar), 3. Akkireddy KPG Kumari (Bhubaneswar). 3000m Race walking: 1. Nisha Barik (Deogarh), 2. Radha Santa (Nabarangpur), 3. Priyanka Ekka (Sundargarh). Discus: 1. Purabi Padhi (Bhubaneswar), 2. Ankita Mohapatra (Cuttack), 3. Sasmita Behera (Bhubaneswar). Heptathlon: 1. Manisha Lakra (Sundargarh), 2. Anu Patel (Cuttack), 3. Tanuja Barla (Sundargarh).
