Odisha boys Aahaan Mishra and Sai Swastik Mohanty became doubles champion and runner-up respectively in the Asian U-14 Ranking Tennis Tournament, which was held at Shyambazar Tennis Club in Kolkata from 23 to 29 March 2024.
Aahaan won the title, partnering Sankalp Sahani of West Bengal. They beat Odisha-Karnataka combination of Sai Swastik Mohanty and Ishaan Badagi in the final 6-1, 6-2. But in boys singles, Sai Swastik Mohanty finished third, defeating Ishaan Bagadi 4-1, 4-2. Earlier in the semifinals, Sai lost to eventual champion Varad Undre 0-6, 1-6.
Aahaan settled for sixth place in singles after losing to Paranjay Siwach 4-0, 1-4, 2-4. Earlier, he lost to Varad Undre 0-6, 1-6 in the quarterfinals and then beat Ayaan Shankar 4-2, 4-2 in the match for the 5th to 8th places.
Bhubaneswar boy Aahaan trains at Odisha Tennis Association Academy, Kalinga Stadium, under experienced coach Santosh Mallik. Sai belongs to Cuttack and hons his skills at Cuttack District Tennis Academy, Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. He takes coaching from Lalit Dash.
