Upcoming Odisha tennis player Avipsha Dehury achieved the biggest success of her career by clinching a double crown in the AITA National Series U-16 Tournament at Sania Mirza Tennis Academy in Hyderabad today. She won the girls singles and doubles titles quite convincingly.

Bhubaneswar girl Avipsha, with an all-India rank of 86, emerged singles champion, overpowering Bawyasri ASR (Tamil Nadu) in the final 7-6(3), 0-6, 6-2. Earlier in the semifinals, she prevailed over Sanmitha Lokesh (Tamil Nadu) 6-3, 6-1.

Partnering Avyaktha Rayavarapu (Telangana), Avipsha won the doubles final with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Telangana-Tamil Nadu combination of Aditi Paturi and Tejaswi Manneni. (TN). The Odisha-Telangana pair set up the title clash, winning their semifinal match against Telangana opponents Zoha Qureshi and Savarnika Visanakarra 6-1, 6-1.

Student of KIIT International School, Bhubaneswar, Avipsha trains at Farhan Ali Tennis Academy in Patia, Bhubaneswar. This was the first National Series title triumph for Avipsha, who takes coaching from Farhan Ali.

“Avipsha is a hard-working player and discipline is her forte. She has the ability to make a mark at the junior international circuit,’’ said coach Ali.
