Shooter Manu Bhaker became the first medallist for India at the Paris Olympic Games 2024, bagging a bronze in womens 10m air pistol at the Chatearoux Shooting Centre today. She finished third with a score of 221.7. This win has come three years after she missed out on qualifying for the final of Tokyo Games in the same event due to a pistol malfunction.
The 22-year-old Manu also became the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting. Overall, she became the fifth Indian shooter to clinch a medal at the Olympic Games after Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore (2004 Athens), Abhinav Bindra (2008 Beijing), Vijay Kumar (2012 London) and Gagan Narang (2012 London).
Born on 18 February 2002, Manu belongs to Jhajjar in Haryana and trains at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi, under the guidance of coach Jashpal Rana.
