  Harshit, Shradha win Odisha State U-19 chess titles

Cuttack duo, Harshit Ranjan Sahu and Shradha Smaranika Nanda won the open and girls titles respectively in the Odisha State U-19 Chess Championship, which was organized by Ganjam District Chess Association (GDCA), under the auspices of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) at Takshashila Residential School in Brahmapur from 31 August to 2 September 2024.

A total of 81 players participated in the six-round championship. Both Harshit and Shradha scored 5.5 points each to emerge champions. Lalit Ranjan Sahu (Cuttack) and Suhana Jena (Khordha) finished runner-up in open and girls categories respectively.

Top four finishers in each category qualified to represent Odisha in the 53rd National Junior (U-19) & 38th National Junior Girls (U-19) Chess Championships, scheduled to be held in Karnal, Haryana from 16 to 24 September 2024.

 

Takshashila Residential School Principal Nageswar Rao, AOCA secretary Debabrata Bhatta, GDCA president Prabhat Kiran Sabat, secretary K K Sharma and chief arbiter Bhabesh Mohanty handed over the prizes at the closing ceremony.
