Jayaram won junior mens 100m bronze medal, clocking 10.56 seconds. Wijesinghe Merone and Weeraratna Dineth (both Srilanka) captured the gold and silver medal respectively with times of 10.41 and 10.49 seconds. All three medal winners created new meet records.

This was the second junior international medal for Jayaram, who hails from Kalahandi district and also trains at the Odisha-Reliance Foundation Athletics HPC. He won his maiden junior international medal with a bronze in the 4x100m relay event of the 21st Asian Junior Athletics Championship earlier this year in Dubai.

All seven member countries of SAAF are competing in the three-day South Asian Junior Athletics Championship. Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has fielded a 62-member National squad, including five from Odisha. Other three Odisha athletes are: Pratik Maharana, Mahendra Santa and Sabita Toppo. Odisha international technical official Prabodh Kumar Mohanty is doing duty in the ongoing championship.
