Aman Sehrawat won the first wrestling medal for India at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, defeating Darian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico 13-5 in the mens 57kg freestyle category at the Champ de Arena today. This was the sixth medal and fifth bronze for India at the Paris Olympics.
At the age of 21 years and 24 days, Sehrawat became the youngest ever individual Olympic medallists from India. He bettered the record of woman shuttler PV
Sindhu who was 21 years, one month and 14 days old when she won silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016.
Sehrawat became the seventh Indian wrestler to win a medal at the Olympic Games. Previous Indians were: KD Jadhav (bronze in 1952), Sushil Kumar (bronze in 2008 and silver in 2012), Yogeshwar Dutt (bronze in 2012), Sakshi Malik (bronze in 2016), Bajrang Punia (bronze in 2020) and Ravi Dahiya (2020).
Sehrawat dedicated his bronze medal to his late parents. Born on July 16, 2003, in Jhajjar, Haryana, Sehrawat Aman lost his parents when he was 11. His mother passed away due to depression and his father died a year later.
