  Junior Girls National Football: Odisha bow out with big win

Odisha crashed out of the Girls National Football Championship (Tier-1) despite registering an 11-0 thumping win against Mizoram in their third and last Group-D league match at RDT Stadium in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh today. Odisha mid-fielder Ipshita Rout achieved a sparkling individual feat by scoring six goals against Mizoram.

Delhi qualified for the semifinals from Group-D, winning all of their three league matches. Odisha finished second in the group with two wins and one defeat. Earlier in their opening match, Odisha rode on a hat-trick by captain Thandamoni Baskey to beat Chhattisgarh 4-2. But a stunning 1-3 defeat against Delhi in the second match denied Odisha a berth in the semifinals.
 

Football Association of Odisha fielded an 18-member State team in this championship. Former India goalkeeper Ranjita Mohanty was the head coach of the Odisha team.

Mid-fielders: Rubina Naik, Ipshita Rout, Rasmita Naik, Tulshi Toppo. Forwards: Anchal Singh, Thandamoni Baskey, Rupashree Munda, Lotus Hansa, Bandana Naik, Bharati Kisku.

12 August 2024 (Group-D League): Odisha (Thandamoni Baskey 14, 43, 56, Rupashree Munda 20) beat Chhattisgarh (Hembati Baghel 67, 81) 4-2. PoM: Thandamoni Baskey.

14 August 2024 (Group-D League): Odisha (Thandamoni Baskey 2) lost to Delhi (Lhingdeikim 45+3, 52, 76) 1-3.

16 August 2024 (Group-D League): Odisha (Ipshita Rout 3, 5, 31, 64, 69, 90+1, Rupashree Munda 8, Anchal Singh 9, Thandamoni Baskey 41, 90+3, Lotus Hansa 49) beat Mizoram 11-0. PoM: Ipshita Rout.
