Promising Odisha cyclists Barsarani Barik and Urmila Behera bagged a total of nine medals in the Asmita Khelo India Women Track Cycling League (East Zone), which took place at Sidhu Kanhu Cycling Velodrome in Ranchi, Jharkhand on 10 and 11 August 2024.
The nine medals featured five gold and four silver. Barsarani won the five gold medals in womens elite 500m time trial, 3km individual pursuit, 10km scratch race, 200m sprint and kerin events, while Urmila secured the four silver medals in 500m time trial, 3km individual pursuit, 10km scratch race and kerin events.
Both Barsarani and Urmila belong to Bhadrak district and received cash prizes of Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000 for each gold and silver medal respectively. Odisha Cycling Association Prasana Kumar Rout congratulated the two medal winners and wished greater laurels in the future.
