  Women Inter-Dist Cricket: Balangir emerge champions

Balangir emerged champions in the OCA Women Inter-District T20 Cricket Tournament, defeating Cuttack 17 runs, via DLS Method at Bidanasi Ground in Cuttack today. International batter Madhuri Meheta and young bowler Sarada Mahanand played major roles in the Balangir victory, scoring a half-century and bagging four wickets respectively.

Opting to bat, Balangir compiled a competitive total of 136 for five in the stipulated 20 overs. Madhuri was the top scorer with a 52-ball 65, while Sarita Meher contributed 33-ball 40. Subhra Nirjharini Swain was the most successful Cuttack bowler, taking two wickets for 25 runs.

 

Chasing 124 for victory in 18 overs (Revised target), Cuttack lost the match as they were restricted to 106 for eight. Sarada Mahanand did major damage to the Cuttack batting line-up, picking up four wickets for 16 runs. She was adjudged as the player of the match. Tanmayee Behera shone with the bat for Cuttack, scoring a 52-ball 46.

Odisha Athletic Association secretary Asirbad Behera graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophy. Odisha Cricket Association vice-president Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, joint-secretary Prabhat Kumar Bhol, treasurer Bikash Pradhan and Odisha senior women team coach Suman Sharma were present on the occasion.
