Odisha today felicitated the Indian Men Hockey Team for winning the bronze medal at the recently concluded Paris Olympic Games 2024. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presented cash awards to the members of the Indian team at a special function at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

The 16-member squad, which included 11 members from the bronze winning team in Tokyo Olympics, created history by winning back-to-back medals for the first time since the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

Each player of the Indian team received Rs 15, while each of the four support staff was given Rs 10 lakh. Defender Amit Rohidas, the only player from Odisha in the Indian team received a special cash award of Rs 4 crore. Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who played his final game for India at the Paris Olympics, was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award and a total cash award of Rs 50 lakh.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers, KV Singh Deo and Prabhati Parida, Sports & Youth Services Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner, Anu Garg, Sports Department Secretary Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma and Hockey India President, Dilip Tirkey.

The Indian team was accorded a rousing reception earlier at the Biju Patnaik International Airport. The team was then taken to Kalinga Stadium on a road show. It may be noted that the Odisha Government has been sponsoring the National hockey teams since 2018. The sponsorship contract has been extended up to 2036.
