Priansh Das (Jajpur) emerged champion in the 8th Rotary All Odisha Open Chess Tournament, which was organised by the Rotary Club of Shri Jagannath Dham and KT Global School at Hotel Holiday Resort in Puri on 25 and 26 August 2024. He scored 6.5 points from seven rounds to collect a cash prize of Rs 7,000.
Rajesh Nayak (Puri) and Nilsu Pattnayak (Cuttack) finished second and third with 6.5 points each and received cash prizes of Rs 5,500 and Rs 4,000 respectively. A total of 207 players from 17 districts participated in the two-day tournament, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 50,000.
Rotary International Director K P Naresh graced the closing ceremony as chief guest and handed over the trophies. Rotarian Raj Kishore Patra, host club president Kailash Chandra Behera, secretary Susama Mishra, IIG Sports Academy director Jyoti Shankar Nanda and chief arbiter Suresh Chandra Sahoo were present on the occasion.
