  State Cycling Meet: Bhubaneswar crowned team champions

Bhubaneswar Athletic Association emerged team champions in both individual time trial and mass start categories of the 41st Odisha State Road Cycling Championship, which was held at Dhabaleswar Madhusudanpur Bridge in Cuttack on 28 and 29 October 2024. KIIT and Bhadrak claimed the top honours in junior and youth categories respectively.

As many as six cyclists bagged a double each, winning gold medals in both individual time trial and mass start events. They were: Jyotirmayee Biswal (Bhubaneswar), Manisha Sahoo (Bhadrak), Subesh Kumar Hanshdah (KIIT), Anchal Shaoo (RSP) and Sasmita Panda (Bhadrak).

Organised by Cuttack District Athletics Association (CDAA), under the aegis of Odisha Cycling Association (OCA), the two-day championship was inaugurated by Odisha Football Association secretary Asirbad Behera in the presence of Odisha Olympic Association secretary Avijit Paul.

 

State Sports Department Joint-Secretary Sailendra Jena, OSD Dhiraj Pattnaik and Senior Assistant Kshyanaprava Mohanty presented the medals at the closing ceremony. OCA president Minati Mohapatra and secretary Prasanna Kumar Rout were present on both the occasions.

According to secretary Rout, successful cyclists of the State championship will be given the opportunity to compete in the National Road Cycling Championship to be held in Puri this year in December.

1. Suraj Kumar Sethi (Bhubaneswar), 2. Rohit Hembram (RSP), 3. Suryakant Dalai (Bhubaneswar).
Junior men (8 kms): 1. Subesh Kumar Hanshdah (KIIT), 2. Rudra Narayan Senapati (Bhubaneswar), 3. Rahul Dash (Cuttack).
Sub-junior boys (8 kms): 1. Rayguru Suryansh Mohapatra (Bhubaneswar), 2. Naman Namashyu (Bhubaneswar), 3. Ashok Kumar Hembram (?).
Youth boys (8 kms): 1. R S Upanshu (RSP), 2. Satyajeet Gochhayat (Bhadrak), 3. Tanush Kohli (Sundargarh).
Elite women (8 kms): 1. Jyotirmayee Biswal (Bhubaneswar), 2. Urmila Behera (Bhadrak), 3. Madhusmita Badek (KIIT).
Junior women (8 kms): 1. Manisha Sahoo (Bhadrak), 2. Banita Kisan (KIIT), 3. Arti Jani (KIIT).
Sub-junior girls (8 kms): 1. Anchal Shaoo (RSP), 2. Shiwani Kumari Sah (Sundargarh), 3. Priyanka Jani (KIIT).
Youth girls (8 kms): 1. Sasmita Panda (Bhadrak), 2. Sneha Das (Bhadrak), 3. Barsa Banerjee (Sundargarh).

MASS START:

1. Suryakant Dalai (Bhubaneswar), 2. Rohit Hembram (RSP), 3. Suraj Kumar Sethi (Bhubaneswar).
