Cuttack cueist Subrat Das emerged senior billiards champion in the 30th Odisha State Billiards & Snooker Championship at 6Pockets Club, Patia Square, Bhubaneswar today. He defeated Kunal Agarwal (Bhubaneswar) in the final by 4-1 frames (150-52, 150-99, 145-150, 152-95, 151-122).
This was the 10th State senior billiards crown for Das, who equalled the record of Late Ahsan-ul Haque (Nalco). The latter won his 10 titles between 1996 and 2006 before passing away at the age of 55 in 2020. Das won his first State senior billiards title, defeating Haque in 2009.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar boy Vishesh Singhal made a clean sweep of all four sub-junior and junior titles for the second successive year. He emerged sub-junior billiards and snooker champion on November 8 and repeated the feat in junior category yesterday. His city-mate Syed Azlan Ali finished runner-up in all four sub-junior and junior events.
Organized by Billiards & Snooker Association of Odisha (BSAO), the championship will conclude with the senior snooker final on November 15. Title winners and runners-up will be eligible to represent Odisha in the National Billiards & Snooker Championship to be held in Indore, Madhya Pradesh during January 2025.
