  KTGS International Open Chess: Shreyash crowned champion

Cuttack youth Shreyash Shuvam Patnaik emerged champion in the 18th KT Global School (KTGS) International Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament, which was held at KT Global School in Barunei, Khordha (Odisha) from 13 to 17 October 2024. He scored eight points out of a possible nine to pocket the top prize of Rs 25,000.

Odisha players made a clean sweep of top three positions with Rabindra Kumar Ojha and Harshit Ranjan Sahu winning the second and third prize of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Both Ojha and Sahu scored 7.5 points each.

 

The five-day tournament, carrying a total prize fund of Rs 1.5 lakh was organised by the IIG Sports Academy, under the auspices of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA). A total of 287 players, including one from the USA, participated in the tournament.

The tournament was inaugurated by KT Global School Chairman Dr Arun Prakash. All India Chess Federation (AICF) Events Committee Member Ranjan Kumar Mohanty was the chief guest of the closing ceremony and handed over the trophies.

AOCA president GC Mohapatra, eminent chess coach Satya Ranjan Pattnaik, KT Global School Director Principal Dr Deep Khare, chief arbiter Jyoti Shankar Nanda and deputy chief arbiter Tapas Kumar Mohanty were present on the occasion.

FINAL STANDINGS (Top 10): 1. Shreyash Shuvam Patnaik (Odisha, 8 points), 2. Rabindra Kumar Ojha (Odisha, 7.5), 3. Harshit Ranjan Sahu (Odisha, 7.5), 4. Tanmay Talin Behera (Odisha, 7.5), 5. Tapan Badamundi (Odisha, 7), 6. Shrihan Sabat (Odisha, 7), 7. Sattwik Swain (Odisha, 7), 8. Devi Prasad Biswal (Odisha, 7), 9. Sanket Sagar Dash (Odisha, 7), 10. Narendra Behera (Odisha, 6.5).
