Odisha emerged champions in the Khelo India Senior Women Kho-Kho League (Phase 3), defeating host Tamil Nadu 14-8 in the final at Sri Vaani International School in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu today. The 15-member Odisha team received the top prize of Rs 2.75 lakh.
Tamil Nadu settled with the silver medal and a cash award of Rs 1.75 lakh. The bronze medal along with a cash award of Rs 75,000 was claimed by Chandigarh. A total of 12 states participated in the two-day tournament.
Eight players from Odisha AM/NS India Kho Kho High Performance Centre represented the Odisha team. They were: Ananya Pradhan, Archana Pradhan, Magai Majhi, Archana Majhi, Subhashree Singh, Subhashree Mallick, Sabita Murmu and Harapriya Bhuyan.
Other seven players of the Odisha team included Sasmita Nathsharma, Ranjita Barik, Pratima Dey, Champa Majhi, Rupali Pradhan, Smaranika Sahoo and Sabila Khatun. Bharat Kumar Pradhan accompanied the Odisha women team as coach.
Odisha reached the final after trouncing Chandigarh in the lop-sided semifinal contest 20-5. Odisha Kho-kho Association president Narayan Patra and secretary Pradyumna Mishra congratulated the players and coach of the Odisha team for their triumph.
